Individualised Respite Care
Individualised Respite Care & NDIS Short Term Respite
Every person has their own interests, routines, and way of spending their time. That’s why disability respite care should never be a one-size-fits-all experience.
At Special Care Australia, our Individualised Respite Care service is built entirely around the participant. Rather than following a fixed schedule, we take the time to understand what each person enjoys and how they would like to spend their time.
Whether that involves getting active through our Day Centre / Weekend Activities, connecting with peers in our Yama Group, visiting favorite local spots, or simply enjoying some quiet time, our team provides tailored support that reflects individual goals.
For many families, respite is thought of as a well-deserved break for primary carers. While that is essential, we believe it is also a powerful opportunity for participants to explore new activities, build confidence, and gain greater independence in a safe, supportive environment—often serving as a positive stepping stone toward Supported Independent Living (SIL).
What Does Individualised Respite Care Look Like?
No two participants are the same, and neither are their respite stays.
Some people thrive in social environments, attending community events or joining group activities. Others prefer one-on-one tailored support, quiet outings, or pursuing personal hobbies. To make every outing stress-free, we can also coordinate dedicated Assistance with Travel / Transport across Victoria.
Our active support workers collaborate directly with participants to design experiences that feel meaningful, comfortable, and empowering. This personalized approach ensures participants remain in control of their choices while receiving the exact level of support they require.
Supporting Independence Through Choice
One of the most valuable benefits of participant-led respite care is the power of decision-making.
Everyday choices—such as where to go, what to cook, or who to spend time with—help build self-esteem and foster autonomy. These experiences lead to:
-
Stronger social connection through active community involvement.
-
Practical life skills developed in real-world settings.
-
Increased personal growth and self-reliance.
Our role is never to direct the experience, but to empower participants to make the most of every moment.

We work closely with families, plan managers, and your Support Coordination team to ensure your NDIS funding is used effectively and seamlessly.
