Supported Independent Living in Melbourne

Special Care Australia provides personalised Supported Independent Living (SIL) support in Melbourne for NDIS participants who need assistance with daily living while building greater independence. Our support is tailored to each participant's goals, routines, preferences and level of support needs.

Our Method

How Our SIL Support Works From First Call to Feeling at Home

From your first enquiry, we help you explore suitable SIL accommodation and support options based on your goals, daily routines, preferences and support needs. Our team works with you to create a comfortable living environment that supports independence and choice.

01

Getting Started

We begin with a free consultation to understand your support needs, goals, preferred location and living arrangements, then help you explore suitable SIL options. Ready to discuss your SIL options? Make an NDIS referral to speak with our team.

02

Support in Action

Depending on individual needs, SIL support may include personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, daily living assistance and support to develop everyday skills.

03

The Outcome

The goal is to help participants build greater independence, confidence and daily living skills while receiving the level of support they need in a safe and comfortable home.

Comprehensive Assistance

We focus on the whole person, building skills, confidence, and connection

Our NDIS support services and SIL support are tailored to each participant's individual needs, with assistance designed to support daily routines, personal care, household tasks, skill development and community participation and activities.

Personal Care Support

Support with personal care, grooming, hygiene and everyday activities, provided respectfully and according to each participant's needs and preferences.

Meals & Nutrition

Support with meal planning, grocery shopping and food preparation, including assistance with individual dietary or sensory requirements.

Daily Routines & Tasks

Assistance with household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, organising the home and maintaining everyday routines while encouraging participants to build their independence.

Skills & Confidence

Support to develop practical life skills such as budgeting, using public transport, managing daily routines and participating more confidently in community activities.

NDIS Frameworks

Finding the Right Home and Support Under the NDIS

Understanding the difference between SIL and SDA can help you choose the right NDIS home and living support for your circumstances.

SIL (Supported Independent Living)

Supported Independent Living (SIL) funds the support a participant needs to live as independently as possible. It can include assistance with personal care, everyday activities, household tasks, skill development and supervision, depending on individual support needs and NDIS funding. If you are considering SIL, read our guide on what participants and families should know before starting SIL.

SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation)

Funds the home, not the support. SDA provides funding for specially designed housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. These homes include accessibility features and design modifications that help participants live safely and independently.

SDA funding covers the physical property itself, while support services such as SIL (Supported Independent Living) are funded separately and can be delivered within an SDA home.

Your Choices

Shared SIL Living vs Individual Support

Shared SIL Living: Live in a shared home with suitable housemates while receiving support based on your individual needs and daily routines.

Individual Support:Where appropriate, participants may receive more individualised support based on their needs, goals and preferred living arrangements.
