Hello everyone! As a Participant Support Officer at Special Care Australia (SCA), I am elated to share the highlights of a remarkable week spent with our amazing participants at the day centre. Here at SCA, our goal is to create engaging programs that are not only person-centred but also community based. The past week was packed with excitement, learning, and exploration.
Monday – BBQ’s; Beach Drive
Our week kicked off with an invigorating BBQ and beach drive. The soothing sounds of the waves and the salty sea breeze had a visibly calming effect on our participants. We shared stories, enjoyed delicious BBQ, and played beach games. This outing was not just fun, but also a therapeutic experience for many.
Tuesday – Cooking Program
On Tuesday, we wore our chef hats and aprons! Our cooking program is designed to foster independence and life skills. Participants were actively involved in the entire cooking process – from picking the ingredients to the actual cooking. Their eyes lit up with pride as they served the dishes, they had prepared themselves. It was heart-warming to witness the joy and sense of accomplishment they felt.
Wednesday – Sports Day at Casey Race
Physical activity is essential for everyone, and our participants are no exception. At Casey Race, we engaged in various sports activities, which not only helped in physical development but also encouraged teamwork and sportsmanship among participants.
Thursday – Visit to McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery
We believe in the power of art to heal, inspire, and educate. Our visit to McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery was undoubtedly the cultural highlight of the week. Surrounded by beautiful sculptures and artworks, our participants & creativity was sparked. The outdoor setting of the park provided a perfect backdrop for participants to explore and appreciate art in nature.
Friday – Reflections and Bonding
On Friday, we gathered to share our experiences and reflections on the week. Participants expressed their favourite moments and what they learned. We encouraged them to communicate openly and discuss their feelings. This reflection session solidified the sense of community within our group.
This week has been a testament to what Special Care Australia stands for – empowering individuals with special needs to live fulfilling lives through engaging and person-centred programs. We’re excited about many more adventures ahead! If you’d like to learn more about our programs, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
Until next time, stay adventurous and keep learning!
